Company History and Information:
Our  modern production facility is located in Lake Zurich, IL. At Bagel House today, we continue our family tradition that began at the dawn of the last century. In 1926 my grandparents opened a bakery in Chisinau, Bessarabia; then a province in the Russian Empire. Our family was baking bread and bagels until 1939, when the Soviets came and closed the bakery. In 1941 World War II started and my grandparents moved to Russia pass the Ural mountains, they helped set up small bakeries during their journey to feed many hungry people. After the war ended, my grandparents came back to their native country, Moldova, a newly established Republic in the Soviet Union. In 1947, Joseph Stalin gave permission to establish many private enterprises, my grandparents with my father opened a new bakery.  They only operated the new bakery for 3 years when the local Soviet government nationalized it.
In 1979 we came to the United States and settled in Chicago. I graduated from the University of Illinois with an engineering degree and a dream of one day owning my own bakery.
Not until 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, I was able to go back and look through the  archives for any documents on the recipes and the bakery production techniques my grandparents used. I found the process which made my grandparents bagels and bread so successful. In 2002, I decided to build a new bakery in Lake Zurich, IL. together with my cousin. We started production in 2005 and presently sell the best bagels in the Chicagoland area. The same year we perfected a recipe for a doggie treat. Now we continue our family legacy by making the best products that bring warmth to so many people. From the founder and CEO, David S. Kalusetsky
